„Athens Democracy Award 2026 goes to Spain’s Pedro Sanchez
The City of Athens Democracy Award for 2026 has been awarded to Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in recognition of his contribution to defending human rights and democratic institutions, as well as his commitment to social justice and international solidarity.
The award was presented by Athens Mayor Haris Doukas during a meeting with Sanchez on Tuesday at the Palacio de la Moncloa in Madrid. The ceremony was showcased in Athens on Wednesday at the Stoa of Attalos, as part of the Athens Democracy Forum 2026, where a recorded message from Sanchez was also screened.“
