Die Columbia University in New York City hat sich Trump unterworfen (1). Die 75-jährige jüdische Holocaust-Forscherin und emeritierte Professorin an der Columbia University Marianne Hirsch schreibt dazu: „…obwohl ich als Studentin, die den Faschismus studierte, gelernt habe, vorsichtig mit Vergleichen mit Nazi-Deutschland umzugehen“ sei das treffendste Wort, diese Unterwerfung zu beschreiben, das deutsche Wort Gleichschaltung (2).
Sie fürchtet, dass jetzt sogar z.B. die Erwähnung der Tatsache, dass Hannah Arendt das Benutzen der Erinnerung an den Holocaust für politische Zwecke durch den israelischen Staat kritisierte, von der Columbia University unterbunden wird. Sie schrieb, sie werde in diesem Fall nicht weiter an dieser Universität unterrichten können.
Marianne Hirsch: „The concern about the ideological misuse of Holocaust memory …is not a new phenomenon. Prominent Jewish survivors and intellectuals like Jean Améry, Primo Levi, Zygmunt Bauman, and, of course, Hannah Arendt condemned the use of the memory of the Holocaust for the state of Israel’s political purposes. Yet the misappropriation they warned against has only been amplified after October 7: Israeli politicians and the media have repeatedly and increasingly equated Hamas with Nazis, (3) as well as called Palestinians “human animals” (4) recalling Nazi rhetoric against Jews.
